Entirely comprising oil-directed units, the US drilling rig count increased by 10 during the week ended Aug. 19, according to data from Baker Hughes Inc.

Texas joined several other producing US states in a lawsuit challenging the US Environmental Protection Agency’s final rule limiting methane emissions from new oil and gas wells and storage tanks, and from wells producing fewer than 15 b/d of oil.

Crude oil prices in Texas averaged $45.19/bbl in June, marking the fourth straight monthly increase since the average monthly price fell to a low of $27.08/bbl in February.

The US drilling rig count gained 15 units to 462 during the week ended July 22, representing its biggest increase since this week a year ago, according to Baker Hughes Inc. data. Fourteen of the units to come online are oil-directed.

The overall US drilling rig count increased for the second consecutive week, perhaps signifying the beginning of a light rebound in wake of a year-and-a-half-long drilling dive.

Devon Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, said it is selling about $1 billion in upstream assets to undisclosed buyers. The sales are expected to be completed in this year’s third quarter.

The overall US rig count heads into the Memorial Day weekend unchanged compared with the week-ago total, a sign that the US drilling segment could finally be stabilizing.
