The US drilling rig count rose by double digits for the fifth consecutive week during the week ended Feb. 17.

The US Energy Information Administration projects crude oil production from seven major US onshore producing regions to climb 80,000 b/d month-over-month in March to 4.873 million b/d.

Rig deployment in the US continued to pick up steam during the week ended Feb. 3 as Baker Hughes Inc.’s tally of active units recorded its third consecutive weekly double-digit increase.

The US rig count has posted its largest increase since the beginning of the shale oil and gas boom.

Crude oil output from the seven major US onshore producing regions is expected to rise 41,000 b/d month-over-month in February to 4.748 million b/d, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration.

The US drilling rig count dropped by 6 to 659 active units during the week ended Jan. 13, marking its first decrease since Nov. 11, 2016, and largest since the drilling rebound began at the beginning of June, according to Baker Hughes Inc. data.

Comstock Resources Inc., Frisco, Tex., and USG Properties Haynesville LLC have agreed to jointly develop certain acreage recently acquired by USG that’s prospective for the Haynesville shale in Louisiana and Texas.

The US drilling rig count began the new year with its eighth consecutive weekly rise and 28th increase of the past 32 weeks that comprise the recent drilling rebound.

Chesapeake Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, has agreed to sell a portion of its acreage and producing properties in its Haynesville shale operating area in northern Louisiana to an affiliate of Dallas-based Covey Park Energy LLC for $465 million.
