Alberta GHG cap seen costing $250 billion

A proposed cap on emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) will limit production growth from Alberta’s oil sands and cost the provincial economy as much as $254.74 billion (Can.) during 2025-40, according to a study by the Fraser Institute.

Nexen idling Long Lake oil sands upgrader

Nexen Energy ULC reported it will idle the Long Lake oil sands upgrader in Fort McMurray, Alta., by putting it into cold-stack mode. No date was given for when the upgrader would be returned to service.
CAPP: Oil pipelines urgently needed

Oil pipelines are “urgently needed” in Canada, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers said in its 2016 Crude Oil Forecast, Markets, and Transportation report.
Oil sands production is forecast to increase nearly 1 million b/d by 2025, driven primarily by the expansion of existing facilities with more attractive economics, according to analysis from IHS.
Syncrude Canada Ltd. said it conducted a cold startup of its steam systems at the Mildred Lake oil sands upgrading complex for the first time since the plant was commissioned in 1977-78.
